NHS EHC & CONTRACEPTION Services

We offer a range of specialized services tailored to meet your individual needs. Our approach is focused on understanding and responding to what you require, providing effective and practical solutions.

NHS EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION

Emergency contraception can be taken up to five days after an episode of unprotected sex (not just the morning after) or even later depending on where you are in your cycle. If there is any doubt, it is better for you to speak to our Pharmacist for advice.

  • You have not used a condom and you are not on any other form of contraception
  • The condom has come off or split
  • You have missed or are late in taking/replacing your regular form of hormonal contraception
  • You are taking a prescribed medication which has reduced the effectiveness of your hormonal contraception
  • Your hormonal contraception has been made less effectiveness by sickness and/or diarrhoea

NHS ORAL CONTRACEPTION

Alsyed Pharmacy is an accessible and convenient place for you to receive advice and support for contraception management.

The Pharmacy Contraception Service now includes:

  • ongoing monitoring and supply of oral contraception prescriptions
  • the initiation of oral contraception. This allows people to request a supply of the contraceptive pill for the first time directly from their pharmacy, rather than from their GP or sexual health clinic
  • supply of oral emergency contraception

Professional advice

Our Pharmacists offer professional, confidential contraception advice and can supply oral contraception (like the pill) and emergency contraception (the morning-after pill) via the NHS service, assessing your needs in a private consultation, providing information, ensuring clinical suitability, and offering follow-up, often without needing a GP appointment. They cover different contraceptive methods, offer initiation for new users, and can provide repeat prescriptions, ensuring you understand usage, potential side effects, and when to seek further care from a GP or sexual health clinic.

What our Pharmacist Can Do for you

  • Confidential Consultation: Discuss your needs privately in the pharmacy to determine the best method for you.
  • Supply Contraception: Provide oral contraception (the pill) and emergency contraception (after-morning pill) for free under the NHS.
  • Initiate Treatment: Start you on oral contraception if you're a new user, guide you through options, and provide a supply.
  • Clinical Assessment: Check your suitability and access your summary care records (with permission) for allergies and medications.
  • Provide Information: Explain how to use the method, discuss side effects, and offer safety-netting advice.
  • Referrals: Direct you to GPs or sexual health clinics for other methods (like coils or implants) or if your needs are complex.

How to Access the Service

  • Self-Referral (Walk-in): You can simply visit Alsyed Pharmacy and ask for a consultation for either the contraceptive pill or emergency contraception. No GP appointment or formal referral is required.
  • Find a Alsyed Pharmacy on Google MAP with our Contact

  • Free of Charge: All supplies provided under this NHS service are free and exempt from standard prescription charges.

  • No GP Registration Required: You can use this service even if you are not registered with a GP practice.
